Anaheim City Council Votes Unanimously in Favor of DisneylandForward

The DisneylandForward initiative has cleared another major hurdle. At its 8-hour April 16, 2024 meeting, the Anaheim City Council voted unanimously in favor of Disney’s $1.9 billion expansion proposal. The project now faces a final approval vote on May 7, 2024. After the final approval, the proposal will take effect in 30 days.

"Through this collaborative planning process, together we can build a stronger, more vibrant community with thriving local businesses and enhanced benefits for residents. And we can welcome visitors from around the world to one of the greatest cities in the United States." – Disneyland President Ken Potrock

At the meeting, the Anaheim Planning Commission presented new conditions of approval:

  • A comprehensive wayfinding program for vehicle and pedestrian access for the east parking area

  • An operations plan for new public parking

  • Maintain vehicle access to the west parking area from Magic Way

In early April 2024, Chairman of Disney Experiences Josh D’Amaro connected the proposed Avatar experience with DisneylandForward. No other specific attractions or experiences are tied to the project besides Avatar, but it could include theme park attractions and lands, hotels, retail, dining, and entertainment. DisneylandForward will allow Disneyland Resort to expand within its 500-acre footprint over the next four decades. The project was first announced in March 2021.
