Disneyland's $1.9 Billion Expansion Plan Moves Forward to April Vote
The DisneylandForward initiative was approved by the Anaheim Planning Commission by a vote of 5 to 1 on Tuesday, March 11, 2024 (watch the meeting on YouTube). The $1.9 billion expansion project will now face the Anaheim City Council, with a vote expected on April 16, 2024.
Disney CEO Bob Iger seemingly referenced the DisneylandForward project during his keynote at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. Iger said, “We could actually build seven new full lands if we wanted to around the world, including the ability to increase the size of Disneyland in California – which everybody thinks is kind of landlocked – by 50%.” Listen to the keynote or read the transcript.
DisneylandForward is a Disneyland expansion project looking to update the Anaheim city plan from the 1990s. Updating the plan will allow Disneyland to expand within its 500-acre footprint over the next four decades. The project was first publicly announced in March 2021, and since then, Disney has been working with the city to develop the plan.
