Disney Commits $1.9 Billion to Disneyland Expansion Project

During an Anaheim City Council meeting on Tuesday, January 23, more details of the DisneylandForward project were revealed, including Disney’s commitment to spend $1.9 billion over the next decade.

DisneylandForward is a Disneyland expansion project looking to update the Anaheim city plan from the 1990s. Updating the plan will allow Disneyland to expand within its 500-acre footprint over the next four decades. The project was first publicly announced in March 2021, and since then, Disney has been working with the city to develop the plan.

Here are the highlights from the Anaheim City Council workshop:

  • Disney has promised a minimum investment of $1.9 billion over the next decade, potentially up to $2.5 billion.

    • If Disney doesn’t spend $2.5 billion in 10 years, the company will invest an additional $5 million in street and transportation improvements.

    • The investment will specifically go towards new theme park attractions, entertainment, shopping, lodging, and dining.

    • The $1.9 billion doesn’t include millions of dollars Disney will spend on improvements to parking structures, pedestrian bridges, and roads.

  • The proposal will be reviewed in Anaheim Planning Commission hearings in March and voted on by the Anaheim City Council in May.

You can watch the Anaheim City Council meeting on YouTube. The DisneylandForward workshop starts a little more than an hour into the video.
