Six Flags Over Texas New for 2023 - AQUAMAN: Power Wave
Folks in the sweltering Central Texas heat are eagerly anticipating America’s first MACK multi-launch water coaster. First scheduled to open in 2020, AQUAMAN: Power Wave has now officially been pushed back to spring 2023.
AQUAMAN: Power Wave was announced in 2019 as the first MACK Power Splash to be built in the United States. This back-and-forth roller coaster uses magnetic launches to complete 3 passes of the undulating track before finishing with a sizeable splash in a quickly-filling pool. This announcement was praised for being a “perfect fit” for the Arlington, TX park. Pulsar, a similar model located at Walibi Belgium, is shown below for reference.
AQUAMAN: Power Wave understandably did not open in 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic and supply issues. Sometime during the 2020 season, a decision was made to alter the ride’s loading platform to accommodate a turntable as opposed to the traditional loading platform. This decision would double the capacity of the highly-anticipated attraction as one ride vehicle could be loading while the other is running the course. This alteration would push the ride’s opening date back to 2022.
Park-goers started to voice concerns in early 2022 when there appeared to be little to no progression on the AQUAMAN: Power Wave construction site. Rumors grew throughout the season that the ride would be delayed yet again. Six Flags Over Texas confirmed on July 6 the ride would open Spring 2023, citing labor and supply chain issues.
Fans of the original Six Flags park were (and maybe still are) excited for the first MACK Power Splash model to make it’s way to the States. Hopefully, their patience will be rewarded soon.
