Six Flags Announces Park Opening Dates for 60th Anniversary
On August 5, 1961, Six Flags Over Texas opened in Arlington, Texas. The park was developed by Angus G. Wynne, Jr., who was inspired to build a Texas park after a visit to Disneyland. The name "Six Flags” refers to the six different nations that have governed Texas: Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the United States of America, and the Confederate States of America.
Sixty years later, Six Flags operates 26 different locations, some of which will be reopening for the first time since shutting down in 2020 amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
All reopening dates and details are subject to change, but here’s the latest:
Six Flags Over Texas (Arlington)
The Fire & Ice Winter Festival runs through February 28, and one-day admission is $19.61 in celebration of the opening year, 1961
