Grizzly at Kings Dominion will have its ROAR RESTORED by The Gravity Group

Towards the end of the 2022 season, Grizzly was conspicuously standing but not operating (SBNO in coaster-speak) at Kings Dominion. In October, photos surfaced online of gaps in the ride structure, leading to further speculation about its future in the park. Last week, Kings Dominion made an official announcement on Twitter and their official blog about the refurbishment of this classic wooden coaster.

Famed coaster manufacturer The Gravity Group has been tapped to re-track and re-profile portions of Grizzly using their new pre-cut wooden track. Starting as Custom Coasters, Inc. in the 1990s, this group of designers and engineers has built world-class rides like Voyage at Holiday World but, in recent years, has transitioned to more family-focused (yet airtime-filled) rides while also dabbling in the refurbishment game. Most recently, The Gravity Group has worked on Racer and Beast at Kings Island using this same pre-cut track technology.

Kings Dominion guests in 2023 should notice a fresh, more comfortable ride experience on Grizzly, thanks to The Gravity Group. Kudos to the park for breathing new life into this hidden classic…

… No, really. Have you ever tried to find this coaster? You have to walk through a gift shop and past go-karts. And it’s hidden in the woods. Not like Beast, but close. Honestly, you can see more of Beast from the midway than Grizzly. It’s a super-cool night ride, diving into all of the trees and such. I’m really excited about this upgrade. It was not a good ride when I last was on it back in 2019. We’re talking super-rough, worse than Mean Streak at its roughest. This is a great move…
