Walt's Plan for a Disney Theme Park in Marceline

Walt's Plan for a Disney Theme Park in Marceline

Did you know that Walt Disney had plans for a theme park in his boyhood home of Marceline, Missouri? It’s true!

Walt Disney had big plans for Marceline and had the “Midget Autopia” ride shipped off to Missouri. Walt and Roy were both supposed to be in attendance for the ride’s dedication on July 4, 1966, but Walt canceled due to a cough he “couldn’t shake.”

At the Walt Disney Hometown Museum in Marceline, there’s a wall dedicated to “The Marceline Project.” The wall features an original sketch by Walt and early plans for the property. The sketch was one of the items on Walt’s desk in Burbank when he passed away in 1966.

As Disney fans, we wanted to share the high-resolution photos we took in November 2019.

If you want to learn more about Marceline, check out our vlog from our November 2019 visit (back when our site was called Theme Park Hopper 🙂):
