Epcot Overhaul Scaled Back; Poppins On Hold

Epcot Overhaul Scaled Back; Poppins On Hold

Epcot officially reopened on July 15th, and visitors quickly noticed a few things were missing from the preview center. Two segments were cut from The Epcot Experience’s 360-degree video: (1) the Spaceship Earth update, and (2) the Mary Poppins attraction.

A Disney spokesperson confirmed the updates:

As with most businesses during this period, we are further evaluating long-term project plans. The decision was made to postpone development of the “Mary Poppins”-inspired attraction and Spaceship Earth at this time.

In addition to the attractions, the World Celebration Epcot Festival Center model was removed, causing speculation that its development was also postponed.

DSNY Newscast has a full recap and speculation about the fate of other planned updates:

In other news, Disney has confirmed that two attractions and one show are permanently closed:

  • Stitch’s Great Escape at Magic Kingdom

  • Primeval Whirl at Animal Kingdom

  • Rivers of Light at Animal Kingdom
