Everything We Know about Copperhead Strike at Carowinds
Carowinds, near Charlotte, North Carolina, has been making impressive investments in new rides. Copperhead Strike is the most significant investment at Carowinds since the park opened in 1973. The Mack Rides double-launch coaster will open for the 2019 season.
As a new theme park site, Theme Park Hopper didn't get an invite to the media preview, but we will ride it on Season Passholder Preview Night on March 22, 2019.
The top-rated coaster at Carowinds currently is Fury 325, a Bolliger & Mabillard hyper coaster opened in 2014. However, the Fury 325 lacks any immersive theming and only relates to Charlotte with the hornet logo and designs. It will be interesting to see how Copperhead Strike ranks compared to the Fury 325 and the Dale Earnhardt-themed Intimidator.
Here’s what we know about Copperhead Strike:
There’s a theme! It's great to see Cedar Fair introducing more theming into their parks. On Copperhead Stirke, you get in a car to get award-winning jam in a barn, and then something goes wrong, which is when you experience the first launch. Watch the teaser trailer from August 30, 2018.
The ride duration is 2:24 per Carowinds’ blog post on August 30, 2018. However, the official POV animation has only about 1:26 of action, so I expect a full minute of the advertised duration to be before unload.
It seems to be on schedule for the March media and season passholder events! Carowinds has posted the test footage below on YouTube in late February and has been posting regular construction updates on social media.
